Black Barn Restaurant

Black Barn is a locally sourced, upscale American cuisine restaurant (farm to table) in a beautiful “chic” barn inspired setting. Basically, it’s artisanal food in the comfort of a modern barn, by the brilliant Chef John Doherty and Tom Struzzieri. EVERY SINGLE DETAIL of this restaurant has been carefully thought out from the music, decor, table settings, utensil holders, napkins, fresh farm ingredients, locally sourced sea salt to the aesthetics and layout. This restaurant is huge, with private rooms upstairs for entertaining and a jaw dropping wine cellar. Even though there is so much space, it’s designed to make you feel comfortable and right at home. It’s casual, it’s cool, the crowd consisted of young working professionals + couples + friend groups/ coworkers and families. Now let’s get to my favorite part, the food. Black Barn offers a Chef’s Table experience, which is a front-row view of all the action in the kitchen with 5 courses and wine pairing for $150 per person. That is one of the most affordable special dining experiences in the city. After speaking to Chef John, it was very important for his restaurant to be accessible and not over priced. He wants his guests to love the food and experience so much that they become returning clients, and eventually “ food family”. His motto is simple, “Great food, wonderful service, beautiful atmosphere and doesn’t kill your wallet.” No wonder why Black Barn is becoming one of the hottest restaurants in Gramercy, and NYC.
A few months ago I got to experience the true Chef’s Table with some food writers and blogger babes, it was such an incredible experience. I wanted to come back on my own, and really try the restaurant on one of NYC’s busiest nights… a typical New York Thursday. I sat at a table in the main barn room, and couldn’t believe how packed it was. Every single table was filled. I told Chef to cook whatever he wanted, I knew that every plate would be a party in my mouth. Even their bread basket was something to be discussed, not to mention the truffle glazed butter!
